Leviathan Due 2/18

How does the beginning of "Leviathan" parallel the true beginning of World War I? Was there really an Alek?

  1. The beginning of Leviathan is similar to the start of World War One because they both feature the same event--the death of Prince Aleksander’s parents. This is the start of the war, and of the adventure in Leviathan. Without this terrible event, neither one would have a story to tell. I'm not sure if there was a Prince Aleksander, but I am aware that there was a Prince "Alexander." Either way, I am positive that there was someone in his position of authority. Furthermore, there were obviously no beasties or any of the unusual things in Leviathan during World War One, but there are still many more similarities between their two beginnings. In addition, World War One began when many countries declared war on one another. This all happened after Alek's parents, (or whoever the prince was) died. There were also many alliances between countries. Leviathan, also talked about the many facts about this and the other politics going on during the time. World War One and Leviathan speak of the same people, some of the same events, and the beginnings of both started in the same way. Even though Leviathan is a whole different story, and whether or not there was a Prince Aleksander, Leviathan and World War One are actually quite parallel to each other.

  2. The Leviathan beggining is identcal to the start of World War One. The interesting thing about it thi=ough as Marah said There was no prince Aleksander only Alexander so slightly different names. There were no beasties or clankers, but the Arch Duke was assainated then it made Austria Hunguray mad and they tried to get back at who ever kicked his bucket. I think the Queen wasn't royal like it said in the book. With Leviathan and World War One they use alot of the same story and characters just exagerrate them a little bit. Speaking of all the Leviathan and World War One's differences they are almost excatly the same.

  3. The beginning is very much like World War One because in World War One the arch duke of Austria was murdered on his trip to a country in war with him. Aleks’ father played this role as his wife played the dukes wife. The arch duke also had his wife murdered by him although, in leviathan, they were killed by food poisoning. When in World War One, they were killed by gunshot. In both, the wives were not royal as well.
The Leviathan was very much like World War One, but in the war was no Alek.

  4. As I found in my research, although I am not completetly sure, Aleksander is not real. The Leviathan has some realistic parts, such as serbia being a large part of war as well as Germany and the assasination being in Sarajevo that started war. The archduke had 3 children. That is one thing that is different. The Leviathan has a few similar parts in it that are realistic and that did happen in world war 1. In summary, leviathan and world war 1 are similar in ways, but not exactly the same.
