The Book Thief

Okay, I said from the beginning that this story was different. When the narrator is "Death" things are going to be unique. What do you think of "Death?" Is he good or evil? Use examples from the text to support your answer. In addition, once you have posted your reflection, you must respond to another group member's post. In total, this will be worth five points.

  1. I think that death is good and not evil, because in the beginning he “I am all bluster- I am not violent, I am not malicious, I am a result.” Death was also very kind when he came to the graveyard where the funeral was taking place, he took off his hat and bowed. Death is very calm and has lots of experience taking your soul, he does it very well and is very good doing it. He always takes a minute to look at the scene and the color. That is why I think that Death is not evil.

  2. So I don't think death is evil but he will say some bad things like calling Rudy stupid he stole a patato and he's not evil because he doesn't kill people he helps them like he leaded leasel's brother to heaven.

  3. I agree with Isaac that death is not evil, because he does not kill anyone but just carries there soul up to heaven. So that is why i agree with Isaac saying that death is not evil.

  4. I think that Death, like all people, has good sides and bad sides. Again, like most people, he/she doesn't like very much to admit it (Quote: "If I am anything, I am fair." Page 1) He/she may say good things and he/she may say bad things, like we all do. Pretty much, I think Death is somewhat mistaken to be someone really evil and terribly mean. This is some of the reason I think he is so sarcastic so much of the time. Death is most likely just another person like us, only HE was the one chosen to be the so called "Death". Think about it! If I was "Death" you wouldn't like me! If Pilar or Alastair or Isaac or Desi or Lizzy or Jonas, you would be afraid of them, too! Heck, you'd even be afraid of Barney if he were "Death"! Well, personally, I think you get the point.

  5. I agree and disagree with Pilar. Truthfully, how can someone (especially Death) be perfect and totally nice? Though I DO think Death is good in some places, even most places.

  6. I agree with Pilar because she said that he took care of souls carefully and he is not evil. Because some other guy would probbally just leave and say so what but death is not evil AND HE takes care of souls, he likes humor but is not evil.

  7. I disagree with Brandon. I disagree with Brandon because I do not think that Poirot is the murderer. The things he has done do not prove that he is suspicious. Even though he is diffrent I dont think he is the right charachter to be a murderer. I also disagree with Brandon because I think that the reason he talks and thinks strangely is because he is a detective.

  8. I agree with Pilar and Isaac I think Death is more of a sacastic person than evil. For example, "And I like how you humans thin of death. The sythe was a nice touch it keeps me occupied." But he is kind just doing his job.

  9. I don't think death is too evil. He is still very sarcastic and writes about them cussing, but he's not really evil. Death says he likes how people draw him with a scythe. Death says that amuses him. That is because Death doesn't have a scythe. Death doesn't even kill people at that. Depending on who they were he just takes their souls to where they need to go.

  10. I agree with Pilar and Isaac because, for one thing, they are the only ones who have posted, and two they agree with me in a way.Pilar is right because he mourns over Warner. Isaac is right because in my first blog, I said he was sarcastic and thinks Rudy is stupid.
