Bridge to Terabithia DUE 4/15

After he learns that May Belle has discovered Terabithia, Jess feels that "his life was delicate as a dandelion. One little puff from any direction, and it was blown to bits." How does this simile help us understand Jess, his life, and his feelings about Terabithia?

  1. I think it helps us understand because it's telling us that since May Belle knows about Terabithia she could tell anyone about it. If she told someone their whole secret would be ruined. May Belle followed Jess to Terabithia and if she told anyone about Terabithia Jess would be crushed. I think Jess thinks that his secret is super delicate like a dandelion and if anyone told the secret would explode. In conclusion, secrets are precious to people and sharing them is dangerous.

  2. When Jess find out Mae Bell knows about Terabithia he feels vulnerable. He feels as if he could collapse. This tells readers that Jess is some one who likes his life to stay the same. Any change causes him stress and is hard to get through. It also tells that Jess feels strongly about Terabithia and wants to keep it away from destruction. He wants to keep Terabithia alive. Jess knows he has to keep Terabithia living because it is sometimes his only hope.

  3. Jess feels that his life was delicate as a dandelion. One little puff from any direction, and it was blown to bits, because May Bell knows about Terabithia. She could know what they were up to. She could tell her mom that Jess is crazy. In conclusion, Jess fells sensitive about May Bell knowing about Terabithia.

  4. The simile helps me understand how Jess is feeling because it means that Teribithia is so special to him that if any other soul other than Leslie, him and May Belle found out about it his life would be blown to bits. Teribithia was Leslie’s and his special place. (Even though May Belle knew about it.) If someone else found out it wouldn’t be special any more. It would just be another place in the world. It would also lose its magic. If that happened Jess wouldn’t be able to live, his royalty and imagination and fun in Teribithia would disappear. In conclusion, this is how the simile helps me understand how Jess feels about Teribithia.

  5. He feels as if Terabithia is the best place ever and someone is already spoiling it for him and Leslie. His life seems hard for a ten year old boy, while his sisters Get the easy life. Jess is like a person who worries about the future and doesn't enjoy time now. In conclusion, That is Jess, his life, and his feelings about Terabithia on the simile.

  6. This simile helps you understand Jess, his life, and his feelings about Terabithia by many ways. First, I think he feels if another person dies like Leslie, his life would be too sad. Next, the simile makes you feel that Jess is very sensitive just as a person. Third, his feelings about Terabithia are kind of a mix between all of his feelings. In conclusion, the simile helps understand Jess in many, many ways.
