Leviathan Due 4/8

How does the beginning of "Leviathan" parallel the true beginning of World War I? Was there really an Alek?

  1. The book “Leviathan” is related to WWI in many ways. First, WWI was started by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Second, it is true that Ferdinand’s son could be the next archduke, (he had married a commoner). Third and finally, he was killed in Sarajevo. In addition, Alek was real, though his name was changed. In conclusion, Scott Westerfeld did his homework.

  2. "Leviathan" is related to WW in many ways. WWI was started by the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. It was also true that his son could not be the next Archduke for the same reason. I think that Alek was not a real person but corresponded to someone in the true story. "Leviathan" is like WWI in many ways.

  3. "Leviathan" is like the beginning of WWI for many reasons. First, WWI was started by the murder of the archduke of Austria-Hungary, and that happens in "Leviathan" as well. Second, the archduke died with his wife in Sarejevo in "Leviathan" and the same happened in real time. Also, Alek was not real, but there was a son of the archduke in real time. In conclusion, Scott Westerfeld was highly inspired by the beginning of WWI.

  4. "Leviathan" parallels to world war one in a plethora of ways. First, both in "Leviathan", and in real life, one of the things that started World War One was the murder of Arcduke Franz Ferdinand his wife Sophie, both of whom were murderd in Sarajevo. Second, both in "Leviathan" and out, its true that Alek could become Archduke, and inherit his father's position. Third, Alek is real, although his name wasn't Alek. In conclusion, those are a few was that "Leviathan" parallels with the real World War One.
