Bridge to Terabithia Due 4/8

Jess comes to feel that "Leslie was more than his friend. She was his other, more exciting self-his way to Terabithia and all the worlds beyond" (p. 46). In your own words, what does this mean? This is worth five points.

  1. This means that she is his to Terabithia and all the worlds beyond. She is his friend. She is the inventor of the magical place so it feels wrong to go without her. In conclusion, she is his more exciting way to Terabithia and all the world beyond.

  2. On page 46 it says,” Leslie was more than his friend. She was his other, more exciting self-his way to Terabithia and all the other worlds beyond.” This means Leslie has an ora about her that brings something special to Jess. Leslie makes Jess feel like he has never felt before. The book says that Terabithia is not complete without Leslie. Teribithia is Leslie’s creation. Leslie brings out the true Jess.

  3. "Leslie is more than his friend. She was his other, more exiting self - his way to Terabithia and all the worlds beyond." This means that first, Jess feels that she is his key to Terabithia. If he goes without her, it seems boring and fake. She is his imagination. In conclusion, Leslie is his imagination.

  4. I think these words mean that when Jess is just in his normal world, he feels insecure, and stupid about himself. His normal life is just hum-drum and boring. When he’s with Leslie and Prince Terrien in Terabithia, he feels special. He says that when he swings on the rope he “lands gently on his feet, taller and stronger and wiser in that mysterious land.” (pg 46) So, I think Leslie is Jess’s more exciting self because she is the one who had the imagination to come up with Terabithia. She makes him feel a little proud of himself and she makes him feel excited to be alive.
Leslie seems to be more connected to the magic. She reminds me of a book I read called The House With No Name. There is a ghost boy who died in a house and then he literally became the house. If a shingle got torn off the house, it hurt the ghost boy’s hair. His spirit and the house were one. It seems like Leslie is sort of the same to Terabithia. She seems deeply connected to this place.

  5. I think this means that Leslie is his way to imagination. Also Leslie is the side of Jess that is more fun. Leslie and Jess created a secret world. In the secret world there are giants. Nobody can see the giants but them. They use their imagination to see the giants. In Conclusion, I think that Leslie is the side of Jess that is more creative and fun.

  6. Jess feels as if Leslie is the start of something new. Leslie is his friend in the real world. Yet, in Terabithia, she is like the sister he never had. He always meets with Leslie after school. Then,They would swing across the creek and go to the castle.
