The Hunger Games due 10/15

When Peeta declares his love for Katniss in the interview, does she really mean it or was it merely created by Haymitch. What does Haymitch mean when he says," It's all a big show. It's all how you are perceived." Why do they need to impress sponsers and what are those sponsers looking for when they are watching the games?

  1. (OMG THIS BOOK IS GOOD!)
During the interview,I think that Peeta was pretending Haymitch made it up, but I think he means it. Why would he throw bread to her and risk a beating? Haymitch means that the more people who sponser for the tributes, the better chance you have at winning. For example, ' I remember how strongly they responded to his confession. Star-crossed lovers. Haymitch is right, they eat that stuff up in the Capitol.' [pg. 136] The sponsers are looking for dramatic, sly, and clever tributes so they can win bets and enjoy watching people killing eachother.

  2. I think that Peeta really loves Katniss because he Would not let Katniss die from the tracker jacker stings. I think that Haymitch thinks that the games are a big show because because the capitol thinks that it entertains the people because the capitol has all the people scared so that they will listen to them. You need to impress the sponsers so they will send you gifts to help you win.

  3. I think that Haymitch told Peeta to say that he loves Katniss, but Peeta actually does. Why else would Peeta save Katniss's life? On pg. 194 thinks after a tracker jacker attack " Sick and disoriented, I'm able to form only one thought: Peeta Mellark saved my life. Then the ants bor into my eyes and I black out."

Haymitch says it's a big show because he is telling them to be what they are not ( except for Katniss which didn't fit any of his categories). He wants people to really like them so they sponsor them. The sponsors are looking for someone who is likeable, but strong so they have a good chance at winning. Tthey also look for people with high score, like Katniss's 11.

  4. I think that Peeta's love for Katniss is not only made up by Haymitch. Haymitch was only trying to get them more sponsors. The sponsors will not only help the people win, but encourage more people to sponsor them. "'He made you look desirable! And let's face it, you can use all that department. You were about as romantic as dirt until he said he wanted you. Now they all do. You're all they talk about. The starcrossed lovers from District Twelve!' says Haymitch." Everybody is talking about them. More people are going to sponsor them because they pity them. The sponsors are looking for sly and clever tributes, ones that will last long and are dramatic.

  5. I think Peeta's comment of loving Katniss is fake . Haymitch has been telling them that it's all a big show, and they need to have a fake relationship. Peeta even addmited on page 136,"She is just worried for her boyfriend."(Gale)

They have to impress the sponcers, so they can get support during the Games, water, food, medicine, etc.

  6. OMG THIS BOOK IS THE BEST ONE I HAVE EVER READ!

I think Peeta is truly in love with Katniss because of the way he has always treated her. But also, I think that it could be one of Hamitch's ideas to get her lovesick, so she will be easy prey. On page 113 it says, 'Haymitch shruged, "Peeta has asked to be coached separately."'
Peeta only wants to be coached separately so he can come up with dirty ideas like the 'I like Katniss' thing.

  7. I think Haymitch made up the idea for Peeta to say that he loved Katniss so that Peeta and Katniss could get sponsors and have a better chance of winning at the Hunger Games. What Haymitch means by "It's all a big show. It's all how you are perceived." is that you have to put on a good show so that the Capitol will like you, sponsor you and give you gifts. He also meant that the it's on television and the sponsors want to see a big fight and people getting killed. The sponsors are the people who bet that you are going to win. When they sponsor you, they give Haymitch money to buy gifts, such as food and weaponry."There's someone out there who wants to buy me water only Haymitch is refusing to let it go through. As my mentor, he gets control of the flow of gifts from the sponsors."(p.g.168) That's what I think About Haymitch's ideas and the gambling sponsors.

  8. I think that peeta kind of does like katniss and kinda not. he likes her because he saved her from the trcker jacker stings. but he also wants to make her look weak. when haymich says its ll big show he means its like americas got talent, you want to look good not weak and tired. you want to impress the judges aka sponsers. you have to show off.

sponsers are like you source of food and water. they can help you with the games. you want to have sponsers to help you throught the games. peeta wanted to make katniss look weak and girly in front of every one. overall peeta does like katniss, but not more than he likes his life.
