  1. DO NOT APPROVE MY OTHER POST!

I think Westing committed suicide so his products would sell more. After all, he did say he knew who the murderer is.

He also called himself Uncle Sam and Uncle Sam was the guy in the funky hat that pointed and said "I want YOU to join the Army,"
so he was an American patriot.

the clues are also related to America the Beautiful. O beautiful FOR SPACIOUS SKIES,
    FOR AMber WAVES of GRAIN,
FOR PURPLE MOUNTAIN MAJESTIES (king, queen)
    Above the FRUITED plain!
AMerica! AMerica! God shed His GRACE on THEE,
And crown thy good with BROTHER HOOD
    FROM SEA to SHINING SEA!

This links to America which links to Uncle Sam who Westing called himself in his will.

  2. I think it was part suicide and part Sydelle Pulaski. I think part murderer because how would Sam Westing know that someone murdered him. I think it is part Sydelle for a number of reasons. The first reason is on pg 44 Grace Wexler says,"You heard the doorman say'purple waves';it must mean something. And that ghastly secretary was wearing a dress with purple waves last night, not to mention her crutch." Also on pg 43 Mrs. Baumbach says,"Don't you look at me like that Turtle Wexler! You know very well that I cound never think such a thing. I must have misunderstood. Oh my, I just wish Miss Pulaski had shown us her copy of the will!" On pg 16 Sydelle says,"No one ever notices Sydelle Pulaski,"she muttered,"but now they will. Now they will." Fimally, on pg 8 and 9 Chris Theodorakis saw someone wih a limp unlock the french doors of the westing house and go inside. It could have been Sydelle because she had a limp. She also said people would finally start noticing her, maybe by murdering Sam Westing.

  3. I think the murderer is Sydelle Pulaski. She's totally helpless. This also gives her a perfect cover. According to page 44 "Anyhow couldn't possibly be the muderer, not the way that she gimps around." The facts are set strait, and I've made my decision. Connor

  4. I did the process of elimination to find out who I thought the murderer was. I think the murderer is not Sydelle Pulaski, because it seems just too obvious, like the writer is trying to trick you into thinking it is Sydelle. On page 27, for example, the writer makes it obvious when Sydelle Pulaski says “‘One minute, please,’ Sydelle Pulaski propped her purple-and-white striped crutch against the table, then removed a short hand pad and pencil from her handbag. ‘Thank you for waiting. You may begin.’” In this quote the writer makes you think that it is Sydelle because Sydelle knows to write down notes and copy the will, as though she knew ahead of time that this was going to happen. I think it can’t be her because it’s too early in the story to have this many clues pointing to one person. I don’t think it is Turtle Wexler because Turtle seems too young and it seems like she would not do it. Angela seems too innocent; although I think that the writer might be trying to trick us into thinking she didn’t do it. I don’t think Shin Hoo did it, for some reason. He is the owner of a restaurant and hasn’t said anything to make me think he did it. Therefore, by the process of elimination, the person who I think did it is Dr. Denton Deere. He seems very suspicious. Angela is getting married to him, but it doesn’t seem like she really wants to, although she acts like she wants to around her mom. In the book, a clue is that the person who murdered Sam Westing had a limp. That’s the only part that doesn’t make sense, in relation to Dr. Denton Deere. I think that maybe he faked his limp. Also, when the will reading was going on, he was not obviously there and a part of the action. According to page 25 Grace Wexler said “Doctor Deere was called away on an emergency mission.” Maybe Grace Wexler and Doctor Deere were involved because why would she know that? This book is very mysterious, I can’t wait to find out what will happen but at the same time I absolutely hate it! It makes me fell so uncomfortable!

  5. I think that Sam is not really dead because I think that he is playing a game on the heirs. I think that he is trying to make them turn on each other but the one that figures it out will be the true heir to the fortune. [its not what you have its what you dont have that counts.]page 50
