The Hunger Games Due 10/8

How does Katniss feel about the country of Panem? Why does she need to make her face "an indifferent mask" and be careful what she says in public? Use examples from the text to support your answer.

  1. I think that Katniss feels hatred for the whole country. Her world is unfair, because some districts have very little food and money, while others are full of it.

pg.66- 'District 11, agriculture. District 4, fishing. District 3, factories. This means that coming from district 12, Peeta and I will be dressed in some kind of coal miner's getup.'

  2. I think that Katniss doesn't like Panem because they force people to kill eachother each year and make people watch and cheer while they do so to show how much the people are under their control. This is an example of how she feels about Panem.'"District Twelve.Where you can starve to death in safety." I mutter. Then I glance quickly over my shoulder. Even here, even in the middle of nowhere, you worry someone might overhear you.'[pg. 6]They act like the killing was a celebration, and they have the other people living in ruins. If they try to fight back, they'll bomb the District. These are the reasons I think Katniss doesn't like the country of Panem.

  3. I think katniss feels the country of panem is awful and cruel because when she was little she used to bad moulth the districts. Her mother then had to quiet her. by an indifferent mask means to hide what she actally feels about panem. she needs to be careful what she says in public because the capitol could come and take her away. also what if prim started saying what she said. the capitolcould take prim away too.

  4. Katniss probably feels hatred and loaths the country of Panem. The capitol takes 24 people and forces them to fight to the death. 24 innocent people. She has to be careful of what she says because of her childhood. She used to rattle off about the horrible capitol, and now, she just keeps her mouth shut.On page 6. she narrates,"When I was younger, I scared my mother to death, the things I would blurt out about District 12, about the people who rule our country,Panem, from the far-off city called the capitol.

  5. I think that Katniss feels that Panem is the most crappy country in the world. She hates the capitol and every one working for it. I think that she is mad about the hover craft incident because the capitol killed that boy and captured the girl. she feels indeferent because she thinks that the people that try to dress nice are just being kissups on the capitol and the capitol alows it. she hates the capitol like on page 59-60, "I step away from the window, sickened by the happyness of the people, knowing they can't wait to see us die.

  6. I think that Katniss hates the country of Panem because they obliterated district 13 with radioactive bombs. "The result was Panem, a shining Capitol ringed by thirteen districts which brought peace and prosperity to its citizens. Then came the dark days, the uprising of the districts against the Capitol. Twelve were defeated, the thirteenth obliterated. The Treaty of Treason gave us the new laws to gaurantee peace and, as our yearly reminder that the dark days must never be repeated, it gave us the Hunger Games."(p.g.18) Then they sent two children to fight to the death in an arena with various landscapes(The Hunger Games). Wearing an indifferent mask means to hide your feelings and this is what Katniss has to do. She has to do this because people working at the Capitol could be anywhere, and if you say the wrong thing, they could take you to the Capitol and make you work as a slave. That is why Katniss has to wear an indifferent mask and what she thinks of Panem.

  7. I think Katniss hates Panem because of the Capitol having so much control, and the Hunger Games. She especially doesn't like District 12 because of the lack for food and money. I also think that the reason she has to be careful of what she says is that if someone hears her, she could get killed. A quote on pg 6 says "'District Twelve. Where you can starve to death in safety,' I mutter. Then I glance quickly over my shoulder. Even here, even in the middle of nowhere, you worry someone might overhear you"

  8. Katniss has to wear a indifferent mask and talk very little when talking about the country of Panem. Not only could the capitol abduct her and her family but Primrose could start talking the same way causing even more trouble for her family. i think she is also influenced by her mother when she betrayed her.I think she feels sad ,depressed and full of rage about many thins that she wants to let out.she may also feel jealous about the capitol and how they are treating the districts to remind them of the rebellion.that is what I think katniss feels about panem.
