  2. I think he disguised as the other people to test how smart his heirs were. Why else would he pretend to be one of his own heirs? He wanted to see if the heirs would get the hint; at the end Turtle had only kicked Barney Northrup, not Sandy, but Sandy was limping with a bruised shin. And the false teeth in Sandy's dentist office? Exactly like Barney's. I think Sam Westing wanted to test his heirs; the smartest would win.

  3. I think that Sam Westing did what he did in order to unite the people that were related to him. His motive was that people work better together than alone and they make lots of friends. For example, Alice a.k.a Turtle and Flora, the dress maker, became friends and helped each other with clues. Another example is when Mrs. Hoo learns to speak English because her husband teaches her. Finally, Chris and Dr Deere become friends. Chris got the medicine he needed to help him from Dr Deere because they became friends.

  4. I think that Sam Westing did what he did because he was lonely and wanted attention. He probably misled the heirs by tricking them into thinking he was murdered so that they wouldn’t get the right answer and the game would go on. For the same reason, he promised the winner money. The clues were also misdirection because they were all words or syllables to a song that had nothing to do with the answer. One thing motivating him to create the game was that after everyone knew Sam Westing was dead and Sandy McSouthers was dead, then he could live in peace as Julian R. Eastman. Another motive of his was to make Crow pay for her crimes. I believe that Sam Westing succeeded in all of his goals.
