Bridge to Terabithia Due 11/19

After he learns that May Belle has discovered Terabithia, Jess feels that "his life was delicate as a dandelion. One little puff from any direction, and it was blown to bits." How does this simile help us understand Jess, his life, and his feelings about Terabithia?

  1. I think this helps to understand his life because it is basically saying he feels strong at first then people make him feel bad and he is knocked down, in other words blown to bits.
I think this could also help understand his feelings and means he has finally found a best friend who understands him than she just dies right when they are even closer.I think both of these things make him feel even worse and thinks life isnt even worth living, but carries on what Leslie and Jess created with his little sister MayBelle.

  2. I think this helps us understand what Jess feels about his life beacause, it basically means Jess is sensitive and it doen't take much to make him feel bad. In other words blow him to bits. I also think it could mean he built a strong, unbrakeable, never ending frienship with Leslie. Then Leslie just dies right when their relationship is at the highest point. He got blown to bits there too. I think Leslie would have chosen May Belle to be the queen of Terabithia if she passed away, that is what happened, so Jess carries on the castle with May Belle and P.T. I think these examples help understand his feelings. Jesse Aarons has a hard dramadic life.

  3. It helps me understand that at first he wants Terabithia to be a secret from May Belle, but when Leslie dies he feels that it is okay to share it with her. When he says "my life was as delicate as a dandelion. One little puff from any direction, and it was blown to bits." It makes me think if the author is trying to tell the reader a secret about Jess that doesn't really relate to what happens, but it helps understand what happens.

  4. This simile helps us understand how Jess feels about May Belle finding Terabithia. Jess feels happy and imaginative when he is in Terabithia. When May Belle found Terabithia, Jess felt like his life had been ruined because it was a secret until she found it. It's like when you want to keep something a secret and somebody finds out about about it.

  5. He feels that Terebithia's a delicate subject. When it is talked about by any body that isn't Leslie of himself. Since Leslie died there, he doesn't like to talk about it. He wishes that he'd of invited her to go with him, to the art gallery, where she wouldn't have died. If she wouldn't of died, he probably would of on that very rope and the bridge would never have been built. If that bridge were never built, than nobody would have ever been to Terebithia and felt like they.

  6. It helps understand that Terabithia is a big secret that he does not want anyone to know. I think when katherine Patterson said "as delicate as a dandelion" she was trying to relate to something people know about. When Leslie dies it is like some one blew him to bits. It also might mean he is sensitive and loves Terabithia.

  7. I think the simile helps us understand Jesse's life because it means that he feels very weak. In a way, when May Belle finds out about Terebithia it helps him through Leslie's death. When Jesse makes May Belle the queen of Terebithia it makes him feel better about Leslie.
