The Absolutely True Diary....

Why does Junior transfers to Reardan?

  1. I think junior transfers to Reardan because he knows that he can't stay at the reserve. He was probably deeply moved by the speech his teacher gave about them making Indians give up. He was utterly convinced by the line: you are special because you haven't given up, and when he decides to eave the school he probably believes that Reardan will be a better place for him to grow. He probably thought about the kids there, and how skilled they were. he might also have chosen to go there because there is no mention of any other school outside the reserve up to page 66.

  2. I think that junior transfers to rearden to show that the world should be more intermixed. He transfers because if he stays, then he won't be killed, but will live like the rest of the indians, alchoholic, and fighting.
