The Hunger Games due 11/10

When Peeta declares his love for Katniss in the interview, does she really mean it or was it merely created by Haymitch. What does Haymitch mean when he says," It's all a big show. It's all how you are perceived." Why do they need to impress sponsers and what are those sponsers looking for when they are watching the games?

  1. I think that Peeta is half in love with Katniss and half not. He might be growing a love for Katniss but wasn't already deeply in love with her. On pg 135, Peeta says to Katniss, "It was my idea. Haymitch just helped me with it." Because of this quote, I think Peeta suggested to say that because he wanted to take Katniss by surprise and to get lots of sponsers. I think Peeta and Haymitch came up with the idea together, but it was originally Peeta's idea.
When Haymitch says, "It's all a big show. It's all how you are precived," I think he means that the reason Peeta says that he is in love with Katniss is all a big lie and it is just to get lots of sponsers.
I think that tributes need sponsers, so that if the get very severly hurt, sponsers can send the tribute a gift to help them live longer. Sponsers are looking for boldness and skill when they are wathching the games, so that when they bet on their tribute, they will be right. If the tribue is weak and a cry baby, sponsers will not want to sponser that tribute because the money that they spent on the tribute will be a waste of money.

  2. I think Peeta realy loves Katniss because on page 71, it says "I look down at our linked fingersas I loosen my grasp, but he reagains his grip on me.' no, don't let go of me,' he says. The firelight flickers off his blue eyes. ' plese. I might fall out of this thing."
I think Haymitch means that the Games are for the entertanement of the crowd when he says " It's all a big show. It's all how you are perceived." The Tributes need to impress their sponcers because the sponceres will give them gifts.

  3. It is only a strategy created by Haymitch. " I should have been told, so I didn't look so stupid," according to page 136. You need to impress sponsors because they can help you a lot. An example is when Katniss had that burn a small package that contained anti burn cream flew down, the cause of this were sponsors. Sponsors look for a person that has skill, and knows how to survive and make traps. Connor

  4. When Peeta declares his love for Katniss in the interview, he really meant it. But Haymitch did tell Peeta to say that, so its half and half. On page 135 Peeta says "It was my idea. Haymitch just helped me with it." I know that Peeta does love her because on page 194 the book says "I'm able to form only one thought: Peeta Mellark just saved my life." And on page 71 when Katniss tries to let go of Peeta's hand, he says "No, don't let go of me."
When Haymitch says "It's all a big show. It's all how you are perceived." he means that it's only a show, and people only care about your personal life. People just want to see what your personality is like. They don't care about the games.
They have to impress the sponsors because they don't want to worry them. They want to prove to them that can win the Hunger Games easily. The sponsors are looking for everything that the competitors have learned in their training during the games. They want to make sure they do evrything the sponsors told them to do.

  5. I believe that Peeta really does love Katniss buy she doesn’t realize it and thinks it is all a big scam created by Haymitch. On page 134 and 135 it says ‘Peeta has only just stepped from his car when I slam my palms into his chest. He loses his balance and crashes into an ugly urn filled with fake flowers. The urn tips and shatters into hundreds of tiny pieces. Peeta lands in the shards, and blood immediately flows from his hands. “What was that for?” he says aghast.”You had no right! No right to go saying those things about me!” I shout at him. Now the elevator doors open and the whole crew are there, Effie, Haymitch, Cinnia, and Portia.”What’s going on?” says Effie, a note of hysteria in her voice. “Did you fall?” “After she shoved me,” says Peeta as Effie and Cinnia help him up.” Haymitch turns on me. “Shoved him?” “This was your idea wasn’t it? Turning me into a fool in front of the entire country?” I answer. “It was my idea,” says Peeta, wincing as he pulls spikes of pottery from his palms. “Haymitch just helped me with it.”’ Maybe Peeta is even a little jealous of Gale for example on page 136 it says ‘”Your reaction was perfect. If you would have known it wouldn’t have been as real,” says Portia. “She’s just worried about her boyfriend” says Peeta gruffly tossing away a bloody piece of urn. My cheeks burn at the thought of Gale, “I don’t have a boyfriend.” “Whatever,” says Peeta.’ In this it makes you think that Peeta is jealous of Gale because Katniss and Gale spend so much time together. I think that Peeta really does like Katniss. For example in the beginning he scavenged bread for her even though it costed him being beat.
When Haymitch says it’s all a big show, it’s all how you are perceived” I think he means that people lie in the Hunger Games to impress their sponsors. For instance, when Peeta declares his love for Katniss he thinks it is a scam. People need to impress their sponsors so that if they are close to dyeing or are harshly hurt then people can give them gifts, like medicines or foods. Sponsors are important for example on page 165 Katniss thinks, “What to make of it all? Has Peeta reveled his true colors? How does this affect the betting odds? Will we lose sponsors? Do we even have sponsors? People in the hunger games sometimes depend on their sponsors for water, and food. Sponsors are looking for someone strong and dependable when they bet. They don’t want to bet on a weak person because it would be a waste of their money. On page 187 Katniss receives a gift from a sponsor. It says, ‘In the faint light of the careers torches, I inch back down to my fork to find the best place to find the best surprise I’ve ever had. Sitting on my sleeping bag is a small plastic pot attached to it is a silver parachute. My first gift from a sponsor! Haymitch must have sent it during the anthem. The pot easily fits into the palm of my hand. What can it be? Not food surely. I unscrew the lid and know but the scent that it is medicine. Cautiously, I probe the surface of the ointment. The throbbing in my fingers vanishes. “Oh Haymitch,” I whisper “thank you”’ Sponsors are an interesting twist in this amazing book.
