The Thief Lord Due 11/3

Ah Venice, the city of canals, narrow allies, grand palaces, masks, mysteries and a plethora of bridges. How does the setting of the story in Venice affect the adventures of Bo and Prosper? Use examples from the text to support your answer.

  1. The reason why I think the setting would affect the adventures of Prosper and Bo is that if they were in say California they would not have many places to sleep or hide. They might not even be able to explore much. They would not be able to escape from the police or their guardians. Like in the book it says “when the vaporetto arrived the boys smuggled themselves onto the boat with the crowd.” (page 51) it means that the boys escaped from the detective that was looking for them.

  2. I think that the setting of the story affect the adventures of Bo and Prosper because it has all of those canals, allies and much more. If the story took place in Utah, it would not make sense for the two brothers and their friends to be living in an abandoned movie theader because it only really makes sense when it is in Venice.

  3. Bo and Prosper ran away from Aunt Esther all the way to Venice. The two boys live in a movie theater with several other kids. It affects the two boys because they always have to make their way through a maze of alleys. In the book it says that Hornet always has to come look for the boys, find them, then lead them back to the movie theater. One time Riccio and Prosper used the alleys to hide from a detective. This is how the setting of Venice affects them. I love this book so far! Ben

  4. I think the reason it would affect Bo and Prospers adventures is because Venice is surrounded in mystery there is so many abandoned places and so many mysterious ally ways it is a mystery itself how they even built Venice. As Victor says in the book “ Venice still had lots of nooks and crannies, like an old rabbit warren. There was always some dry place for two children. Some abandoned house. Or one of the many churches.” But if the story took place in say idunno St. Louis there wouldn’t be all the hiding places and Victor would capture them easily. Even their horrid aunt could find them

  5. I think that if it was not in Venice it would be pretty boring because there is no water passage ways in Canada or china and Venice is exciting. If it was somewhere else it wouldn’t have as much mystery. Also Scipio couldn’t be so sneaky thru the allies because if it was here they could see him with out the allies. If it was some where else it would probably would have less mystery and excitement. Further more when Prosper and Bo ran away if they ran to Rhode Island why would there mother possibly tell them about that and how would they get there. I think the book would be a lot worse if it were somewhere else. Scipio would have to run away thru the streets and would probably get caught all the time.[She told them stories about winged lions, a golden cathedral, and about angels and dragons perched on top of the buildings.]

  6. Boats allies and all of the amazing the in Venice all help Bo and prosper. sometimes it is more on the bad side than the good here are some of my theories .for example on page 33 when it talks about the robbery it says “spectacular break in at the palazzo containi "Riccio read angrily "valuable jewelry and various works of art stolen no trace of the perpetrators". In that text it shows what Scipio robbed if you think about it with out the allies and tall palaces Scipio wouldn’t have any cover if he was in the country he would be very visible the same that goes for Bo and Prosper .further more the masks, if they just put on the mask they would be more on the safe side because it would cover Bo’s and Prosper’s face. The bad part is it seems like Venice is a very small place so it would be easy to find them. Those are my theories about all of the amazing things in Venice
