Thief Lord due 11/17

The merry-go-round in The Thief Lord turns out to have magical powers (it can make people older or younger). Did Scipio made the right decision? What about Renzo and Morosina? Do you believe these characters found the happiness they were seeking after their ride on the merry-go-round? Do you think Prosper ever regretted not taking a ride? Would you have taken the ride????

  1. I think that they made bad choices because they have to remake they’re childhood and Scipio has to miss his childhood. He will have to miss making friends, school, and family. Renzo and morosina won’t be treated with respect and won’t get jobs or any money. They should have at least stopped at age 20 or 30 but kids that wont do you any good. Plus they shouldn’t tamper with father times will. As for Prop I think he didn’t regret it because he’s happy with Bo as kids.

  2. I think Scipio made the wrong decision because being adult means having to spend lots of money, paying lots of bills, and doing a lot of hard work. He might not be able to do what children do. I think Renzo and Morosina did the right choice because they were very old and they wanted to be young again. I mean who doesn’t want to young again? I believe all the characters who took a ride on the merry-go-round are happy now. Even though I think Scipio made the wrong decision, he is happy now. In the book on page 272, Scipio says "my parents treat me like I’m too stupid to put my own pants on. Scipio, wash your hands after you touched the cat. Scipio, do you have to be quite so clumsy all the time? Scipio, just shut up, you don’t know anything about it, you little flea, you useless weed." that shows that Scipio is tired of being treated badly. I think that prosper will not regret not taking a ride on the merry-go-round because he knows the advantages and disadvantage's of being an adult. Plus he’s happy being a kid with Bo. I would not have taken a ride because when you are a kid your life is just much calmer than an adult’s life. Also, kids don’t get stressed out as much.

  3. I think that Scipio made the right choice because to be an old person was all he wanted, he wanted to be seen as powerful as a grownup, have the rights of an adult and not be treated like nothing because he was a child, and it was his choice and he choose what he wanted.

Also, I think that renzo and morosina made the right choice too because they wanted to be a child and be able to play and roam the streets like a child, wanted to be rid of hard jobs and work and wanted to just act like a child freely without being rude and absurd.

Finally, I think that prosper made the right choice to,because he wanted to be a child and run and play with Bo without having old age hurt him and make him want to sit down, and he just wanted to be what he was then.

  4. I think that Renzo and Morosina made a bad choice. They possibly wouldn't want to relive their childhood again, would they? I think that Scipio made a bad choice as well. He had to skip his childhood and go on to being a grown up. He will miss making friends and his education. Worse of all, I don't know how Scipio tell his father that he is grown up. They all probably did not find the happiness they were seeking.

Prosper is one of the main characters in the book. He might have hated being a grown up, just as Scipio had when Victor told him that all grown ups did all day was drink coffee, read the news paper, stuff like that.

I would not have taken the ride for three reasons. Number one, what if I get on the wrong statue? What if I sit on the lion and the unicorn was meant for me? Secondly, I like being a kid. Sure I get hard home work, but when you get older, you get harder home work and essays. If I took the merry-go-round to be a grown up, I would be stuck inside having nothing to do. Even I would want hard reports other than to have nothing to do. Lastly, I would miss all of my friends and especially my teacher, Mrs.Rigsby.
