Hunger Games due 11/17

What do you think is the cruelest part of the "Hunger Games?" What kind of people would devise this spectacle for the entertainment of their populace? Can you see parallels between these Games and the society that condones them, and other events and cultures in the history of the world?

  1. I think the cruelest part of the Hunger Games is when Cato dies. His death is extreamly cruel because the Mutts take him into the Capricornia and then Katniss shoots him with her bow. "Pity, not vengeance, sends my arrow into his skull." Page 341. The entertainment of the Hunger Games is the killing and treason. There are allianences, betrayals and lots of deaths. The Games are alot like the Roman glatiator fights. The glatiators are like tributes. The cocity is because of the 13th district.

  2. . I think that the cruelest part of the Hunger Games is that 23 (or 22) people have to die from it. So many brutal things happen, such as fires, tracker jackers, and they made the dead tributes into menacing wolves. On page 334, Katniss says to Peeta, “It’s them. It’s all of them. The others. Rue and Foxface and…all of the other tributes.” All of this happens merely for the Capitol’s entertainment. They kill 23 people and then they kill 23 more the following year. They trick the tributes into thinking that they have a chance to win, and then, they create a life threatening creature that kills them. Only the Capitol takes upmost pleasure in the reaping and Games. If the get bored with the current state of games, the Gamemakers think up something completely devious so they don’t get their own heat slaughtered. All other districts loathe the Games, because as a result they still starve and the families of tributes are heartbroken. Only people of hatred of others would possibly create these deaths, those who go by the name of the Gamemakers. In some countries, they treat people in a similar way. If you do somethimg bad, the whip you to death, hang you, or even stone you. Even with all of these actions, the Hunger Games would out run all others in a contest of punishment.

  3. The Hunger Games are games that make 23 people die to show that the Capital is in all control, I think that is cruel enough. However, that is not the cruelest part in my mind; the cruelest part is when Katniss and Peeta are convinced that they can both live only to be informed that it was all just part of a plan so the Capital could watch the most epic battle between the two star-crossed lovers. Of course their plan backfired when Katniss decided if one of them had to die they would both die on page 345; I think it is just to cruel to basically force then into dying. The people who make these games are both cruel and selfish; they make the games so they are filled with obstacles and dangers just for the entertainment of the Capital. They don’t care about anyone’s safety toward the end, they don’t care about how anyone dies; in fact all they care about is the killing. The President(s) are cruel for letting the games happen so they probably are cruel in other areas to such as war. The President(s) today let war go on without thinking twice about it and that has been so for along time, it is very likely that the President(s) in The Hunger Games continue to follow the example of the President(s) today. They could also punish people for going against the laws like they do today but in a more advanced way.

  4. There are many vicious things in The Hunger Games. Tracker jacker nests, death by berries, and muttations ripping people apart. But the cruelest part by far is when Rue dies. I knew it was gonna have to happen, but why so brutal? And to emphasize it, Katniss just has to sing her to sleep and cover her in flowers. After Rue gets caught, Katniss also has to watch her die. Even if Rue had been killed with Cato, it couldn't have been as gruesome. It was done on purpose to emphasize the meaning of the Hunger Games.

  5. I think that the cruelest part of the hunger games is when Rue dies, she was so innoscent. "Becausethe same thing happened with Rue, I watched her die,"page 317. The hunger games entertain many people. Occasionlly, you run into a civilization that thrives for people killing each other in an arena, just like Panem and Rome. The only difference between a gladiator fight and the hunger games is that the hunger games take longer to finish.

  6. I think the cruelest part of the “Hunger Games is when the muttations are let into the arena. I don’t think it’s very smart to let those creatures out when there are three tributes left. They could eat all three of them and there would be no winner. People who want the Hunger Games to end with a big fight would devise this spectacle for the entertainment of their populace. I thought it was clever to drain out the water in the river to get the tributes to go to the lake, and then send out the muttations. I definitely can see parallels between these Games and the society that condones them, and other events and cultures in the history of the world. The Hunger Games would probably be one of the most exciting events in the history of time.

  7. I think that the cruelest part of the hunger games would be the allowance of alliances. That’s probably the worst part because like when Katniss teamed up with Rue and she was slaughtered, Katniss’s new friend was gone, and trusting someone and befriending them is absolutely just terrible (not like the other things aren’t). Another reason this is the worst is the betrayal, because if like you trusted some one than they would get closer to you, but to interrupt that trust with death is worse than before.
