- I grew up in a suburb of Chicago and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia for my undergrad. I have a Masters in Elementary Education from Regis. I come from a family with four kids. My sister is a teacher in Chicago. One of my brothers lives here and the other one lives in Chicago. I moved here because my husband loved Colorado and I loved him. As it turns out,I love Colorado as well.
In the book Chains, Isabel says, " I was chained between two nations". I think she she says this because she has to choose a side to be on . The only thing is, they both will deliver the same things to her such as freedom and other rewards. Not only does she need the freedom fast, but she also wants to repay or help Corzon for what he did for her.The word " chain" is used as an antonym to the word freedom because Isabel says " she was chained between two nations"which means that she was basicly confused or didn't know who's side to be on. As i said, she will get the exact same rewards on matter which side she decides to be on.

Isabel means she was chained between two nations because she wants her freedom for the British side but, she also wants to stay true to her country. Chain is an antonym to freedom because the word chain itself is like a chain. The way I mean this is if Isabel were to want freedom chain would cancel it out because it is so strong. The word chain in this book is a strong word like hate but, the main reason it is an antonym is because she wants freedom but, she is trapped by chains.
ReplyDeleteIsabel was thankful for one country and she wanted to be free. She said, "I was chained between two nations" because she did not know whether to be a spy or help out at camp. If she became a spy, there would be freedom and rewards. If she helped out at the camp, she would also get freedom and other rewards. The only problem is, she can only choose one side, and she wants a little bit of both.
ReplyDeleteTo Isabel, the word "chains" means to be a slave and to never be free. "Slave" and "never be free" are antonyms to the word "freedom" because they mean the opposite. That is why Isabel said "I was chained between two nations" and how is the word "chain" used as an antonym to the word "freedom."

I think that what Isabel was trying to get at when she said "I was chained between two nations” was she was trying to say that she was trapped between British freedom (although they were lying) and American slavery because obviously shy didn’t want to be a slave, so she went to the British and her lies kept her from freedom (they were still lying).
ReplyDeleteI think that the word chains was used as an antonym to “freedom” in a way that really means that her freedom was in chains and as was Isabel. What I mean is that Isabel was quite obviously a slave, and as a slave she was bound to her owner as if in chains as the name implies.
