Who do you think the woman in the window is? Why do you think Deborah Ellis included her in the book? Use text examples to support your answer, this is worth five points.

  1. I think the women in the window is Shauzia's mother. I think that because Shauzia's parents don't believe in the Taliban. The woman in the window throws small objects out the window to Parvana and some one who believes in the Taliban would not do that. I also believe the woman is Shauzia's mother because this woman is not wealthy but Shauzia's grandparents are. So the trinkets that this woman throws out the window most likely come from the wealthy grandparents. I think that Deborah Ellis included the window woman in the book to add more suspense. Having the window woman adds both more excitment and mystery. Another purpose for the woman in the window is that Deborah Ellis is trying to prove a point. The point Deborah Ellis is trying to prove is that not every one is in favor of the Taliban.

  2. I think that the Window Woman is just a compassionate and rich woman. I think this because in the book, Parvana didn’t know who the Window woman was, and only a very compassionate person would give a valuable item to a stranger. She is rich because the stuff she gave to Parvana is extremely valuable, and was probably worth more than how much Parvana made each week. I think Deborah Ellis included Parvana’s friend to keep the reader hanging. Ms. Ellis did a very good job with this. I wanted to know why the Window Woman was there. That is why the author included the Window Woman.

  3. I think Shauzia or somebody related to her was the window woman. One major clue is that Parvana heard arguing in the house right after she got a gift from the woman. Shauzia once said "There's an awful lot of arguing in our house!" I think Deborah Ellis included her to keep you going in the book. I mean that she just gives suspense and you want to knowm who she is throughout the book. I think you might find the complete answer to this question in the next book in the Breadwinner Trilogy.

  4. This is my response to the question. I don't know who the woman in the window is. I think Deborah Ellis included her in the book to show that helping hands can come from anywhere. Random people can be willing to do a kind act and help somebody when their down. On a different note, I think this was a very well written and a great book.
