  1. Manjaro has learned many differences in culture. One of them is clothing. In Japan people wear Kimono’s and in America you can wear anything. Another difference is food. In America you can eat hamburgers and bread and pancakes etc. In Japan you eat a lot of seafood and rice aka sushi. When the fishermen are talking in Japanese Manjaro has a hard time understanding it. Manjaro has learned how to speak English and is forgetting the Japanese language. The toys and automobiles are different there. In Japan you are not allowed to touch women. There are many differences that Manjaro has to learn.

  3. Manjiro has learned many cultural differences between the two cultures. The first is the food, in Japan they normally eat rice, sushi, fish, and noodles. In America they eat many different things like, donuts, pizzas, hamburgers, tacos, french fries, hotdogs etc. Another cultural difference would be the way they dress in Japan and the way Americans dress. In America there are many different styles and fashions. In Japan there is only one style, Kimonos. That's why Manjiro was so, surprised to see buttons, and pockets. Another cultural difference is the laws, in Japan men aren't allowed to touch woman at all or they will be arrested. In America the laws are much different because men can touch woman they just can't hit woman. Manjiro has learned alot of the Americas cultural differences but, he still has a lot to learn.

  6. Some of the cultural differences Manjiro has encountered this far are... Language, beacause in Japan you speak Japanese and in America you speak English. An example of this from the book is when Manjiro says, "My friends are still on the island." But it was clear these creatures didn't understand. Another cultural difference Manjiro has encountered is meals, they sit on the ground to eat in Japan and sit in chairs in America. An example of this in the book is when the book says... Manjiro would never get used to sitting this way, he thought, and why should he? Only an ignorant foreigner would sit this way. One last cultural difference between Japan and America is social, in Japan a man and women cannot touch each other in public in America it's fine. An example of this in the book is when the book says..."Now I make it appear!" Manjiro started to reach toward the girls face, intending to make the coin seem to come out of her ear. But he stopped, his arm suspended in midair. What if he accidentally touched her! Something like this could never happen in Japan, he suddenly thought-for a man and women to be so familiar in public! But he was not in Japan, he reminded himself-he was in America now, where men and women walked arm in arm on the street. Those are a few cultural differences that Manjiro has discovered this far.
